Seminole TheatreThe Roaring 20's..Going forward into the OOO's*..K.Teresa Harris..page5 The Seminole Theater Group's vision for Seminole's future is to offer Homestead area residents and visitors a premier multi-disciplined performance space for arts, culture and entertainment. While the theater operated primarily as a movie house in the past, future plans are to offer mainly live performances. The restoration plans include tearing down the old cinema screen, enlarging the stage, and incorporating an orchestra pit to accommodate twenty or more musicians. These changes will enable the 475-seat theater to better accommodate live theater, dance and musical performances. The theater will also host comedy shows and concerts. A new movie screen will accommodate showings of foreign language and educational films sponsored by the community. In addition, the community will be able to use The Seminole Theater to host events ranging from high school graduations to beauty pageants. Approximately twenty miles north of Homestead, a 1200-seat theater and cultural facility is being planned, largely due to the long-term efforts of Dade County Commissioner Dennis Moss. A smaller theater was originally planned in conjunction with the larger one. However, the county now plans to use the Seminole Theater as its smaller cultural facility, which should help to boost the popularity of Seminole. As the restoration of Seminole Theater progresses, many theater groupies and others wait patiently, anticipating the day when this once popular entertainment spot will once again become the center of social life in Homestead...END* [back]|[page4] |
